Guest Expert at ROHR-  Mark Modderman - Friday, August 1, 2008

Mark Modderman was the youngest sailor (12) in the South African Nationals in the 80's.  At that time he crewed for Michael Collier who was one of the better heavy air sailors in South Africa.  They placed 16th in the Tahiti Worlds in 1982 with two bullets.  Michael and Mark sailed against world class names like Blaine Dodds, Shawn Ferry and William Edwards at their regular regattas.  Mark raced 16's for about 10 years in South Africa as a skipper before moving to the states and sailing in the 1995 Daytona Beach 16 Nationals.  His 1987 charter boat ended up in pieces by the pool and he had to do a lot of work before returning it to Deidre McHugh (now Mitchelli) from NJ.  Mark bought a Mexico worlds boat in 2005 and showed up racing in Divsion 11 where he now resides.  Mark has won numerous regattas In Division 11 and 16 (ROHR 2006) and places well in Nationals and Worlds.  Mark won Division 11 the last two years and  was second in the 2007 North American rankings by less than one point (.86).
